The Founder: Randall Browning is no stranger to adversity. His story made National News in 1996 when he was at the top of his class in medical school--on academic scholarship--yet discovered to have lived homeless on the streets for many years in youth. "Climbing mountains is the epitome of struggle and triumph," he told the reporter, "it is only natural that I should pursue them all."
Climbing first the low hills of the Sierra Nevada in his teens, he moved to the Rockies as young man. Then, after eight years climbing the frozen peaks of Alaska, he challenged Denali in 2004 and won, summitting during one of the worst storms of the season. He has since climbed peaks around the world, and also travels as a medical missionary, providing medical care to impoverished people in such places as the Amazon, Cuba, Latin America and Africa.
This Ice Axe design, filled with snow-melt, was envisioned by him during a 4-day storm on Aconcagua. It seemed not only the perfect symbol to reflect not only the hardship of mountaineering, the challenges of life we all face daily. "Anyone who holds this work of art will understand its meaning, and its relevance to all who dare to dream and persevere."
